Meet the Team

Co-Founder/Director

Colleen Hinds

Colleen’s love for pigs began more than 26 years ago with Piggy Piggy, who shared her and Jason’s home for 18 years and inspired a lifetime of helping other pigs.

After 20 years as a professor and department chair, she now spends her days caring for the herd of amazing piggies that call the sanctuary home, helping pig guardians understand their companions, and coordinating with shelters and sanctuaries to get pigs to safety.

Her rescue work began in California, grew into their nonprofit in Sedona, and continues today in Hereford as Snouts of the Southwest.

Colleen loves the piggies with all her heart, shares their daily care with Jason, and happily curls up beside them at night.

She loved her teaching career, but animal welfare is her greatest passion, and she’s excited to expand education at their new sanctuary so more people see pigs as individuals deserving of love, respect, and life.

Jason Hinds

Jason’s love for pigs began more than 26 years ago with Piggy Piggy, who shared his and Colleen’s home for 18 years and inspired a lifelong commitment to helping pigs in need.

After a career as a chef, he now spends his days caring for the sanctuary’s piggies, preparing their meals, and building and maintaining the spaces they call home.

With a talent for logistics, creative problem-solving, and building, Jason can bring an idea to life, finding practical ways to make the pigs’ lives better and help the sanctuary grow.

He loves his hoof babies with his whole heart, shares their daily care with Colleen, and happily curls up beside them at night.

Jason would do anything he could to save a pig in need, and he’s excited to put his skills to work at their new Hereford sanctuary, creating room for more pigs to have the safe, loving lives they deserve.

Sean Thomas

Started rescuing pigs all across the U.S. 7 years ago, starting with his 1st pig Oliver. Sean believes all potbelly pigs deserve a chance. He currently has 11 piggies. Sean specializes in networking piggies all across the US.

Laurie Green

Laurie loves bringing the latest in sound healing to the piggies. She is an EMT coordinator/director who loves hanging out with the herd, and helping rescue piggies.

FAQ's

Do you allow Visitors?

We just moved to our new location and need some time for the dust to settle and to prepare our space for visitors in the near future. Stay tuned!

Do you adopt your piggies at your sanctuary?

All of the piggies at our sanctuary have homes with us forever and, therefore, are not available for adoption.

Since we don't have more space at this time to take in more piggies at our sanctuary, we network pigs in shelters, from neglect cases and owner surrenders. We try to find them homes and get them directly to safety when possible.

How Can I Help?

We need homes to keep helping piggies. If you would like to open your home to a needy piggy, please message us and we will connect you with our friends who have adoptable piggies near you.

We would love sponsors for the piggies we care for at our sanctuary. If you would like to help us provide care for a loving piggy who has a forever home with us, food, and medical care, please click on the Sponsor-A-Snout tab above.

We need your help to keep rescuing and networking. It is very expensive to spay/neuter, provide emergency care, and transport piggies to safe homes. Please click on the donate button above it you can help contribute to our rescue work or our sanctuary.

Do you take in Owner Surrenders?

We just moved and are working on building infrastructure to help more pigs in the future, however at this time without additional funding, we are not able to take in any more piggies. However, we are happy to share your post if your piggy needs a home, and we network to help piggies in shelters and neglect cases across CA and AZ. We would love to help in other states, but we just don't have the network and connections to make that happen.
